The Tulsa Shuffle
Steve Ripley

All across the south...
They've got the boogie bands that sound so fine
On both coasts they've got the record company machines
Turnin' out hits on an assembly line
But in the heart of America...we've got the beat
That's guaranteed to tap your toes
Oklahoma's got the Tulsa shuffle...
And this am the way it goes....

Up north in Chicago...
You('ve) got your authentic blues bands
And way down yonder in New Orleans...
They got a thing they call Dixieland
All around this whole wide world...
There's one thing that everybody knows
All God's children love the Tulsa shuffle...
And this am the way it goes....

I love England--I love the Beatles
The who and the rolling stones
I love Nashville country and Texas Tex-Mex
And Cajun and Motown soul
But in the heart of America...we got the beat
That's guaranteed to tap your toes
Oklahoma's got the Tulsa shuffle
And this am the way it goes....

Did you know?
An all-time record for the longest formation of line-dancers ever has just been established – in Holland! At 6:15pm on July 27th, 1997 hundred of participants gathered for what was to be the Grand Finale of the Darling Market Country Festival in Rijswokj, Holland. A special workshop had been held at 4pm for those who did not have much experience with Country dancing to acquaint them with the steps. To the beat of The Tractors’ “Tulsa Shuffle” and under the watchful eye of the camera, 341 dancers attempted to execute the “Ten Step” in perfect synchronization – the line had to remain absolutely unbroken for the record to be established.

After a couple false attempts it happened – at 6:45pm. In order to have a record officially registered by Guinness it is necessary that complete documentation be provided. This was done by a camera crew that managed to film every participant in the course of the dance. The tape has been sent to Guinness.
